For such "weird" devices, could they just be required to use IPv6 or use reserved-ip's with a NAT-gateway? It just seems somewhat odd, to demand full-network-hood for every throw-away phone, palmpilot-like-thing or lcd-terminal-do-wicky. What is the wireless version of a MAC-address anyway, they might find themselves running out of them too.
