September 2, 2000Dear WLBrown,
Your comment that, "you have 'worked for the
past 8 years to make the Internet's benefits available to families and local communities,'
but the fact that the Internet was not built for families seems to be lost on you."
It's
not lost on me at all. I know it wasn't built for families, local communities, individuals,
or even businesses for that matter. After all, the Department of Defense, whose money
built the net, isn't in the community building business.
My question is: What would
the Interent look like had it been designed with empowering individuals, local communities,
and small buisnesses?
And, if that design is different, should we move towards
it?
Sincerely,
Tom Lowenhaupt
