Bill (who last surfaced going after the Internet Infrastructure Fund two years ago),
argues that registrants will live happier and more fulfilled lives if the COM, ORG,
and NET zone files were updated more than twice a day. (This is the same Bill
who last updated most of his web site pages 18 months ago.) The way to this state
of Nirvana is argued as best achieved by treating the domain name registration business
as a "government service" and going out for competitive bids. Furthermore,
he believes that some really wonderful company will surface that provides superior
services for "no higher than $.05 per registration." Of course, if one does
the math, you end with something on the order of an underpaid systems administrator
operating an old PC off a dialup telephone line out of a garage. Bill also
urges this in the name of Internet stability. Enough said.
