I am extremely concerned with the suggestion that the committee to study "whether
there should be at-large directors" would include those who are expressly opposed
to it (commercial interests, treaty bodies, etc.) The at-large community is
essential to a "bottom-up" organization. A California Corporation has members
and is supposed to operate for the public benefit. So far, ICANN has done everything
it can to exclude those it is supposed to serve - the individuals and users of the
internet. The majority of members of this committee should be those who
desire to see this empowered rather than destroyed. In addition, the at-large
Directors should have a great deal of input in this study since it is they who represent
the at-large community. The only other committee members should be technical
in nature to insure that those needs are met as they were not with the "selection"
process we just went through.
