Maybe it's written in some obscure document, but I have yet to see a consistent policy
for Registrars to follow that deals with expired domains. I can't believe that
in today's electronic age it takes 60 - 150 days for someone to pay $9 - $30 to renew
their domain. I believe that 45 days is enough time to give someone before
deleting their record. Believe me. If someone wants to maintain their
domain name, they will pay on time. What I have seen mostly at Network Solutions,
are domains that have expired from 2 - 5 months or more that are kept hostage and
then offered up through their brokerage GreatDomains. Very uncool business
practices. I think that ICANN should institute some formal policy with dealing
with expired domains. 45 days is plenty of time. I called network solutions
and they have no set time period from which they deactivate stating sometimes there
are payment disputes. Any bank or credit card service can look up payments
instantaneously. One to two days at any reputable business and it can be resolved.
What's the worst that could happen to a registrant, they pay $18-$60 versus $9-$30
bucks. Pay again and then resolve the payment issue but keep your record up
to date. I shouldn't see expired domains. 45 days before a domain registration
is to expire, the registrant should be on notice. If not received by then.
Deactivate. Hope you all can do something about this. Thanks. Sincerely,
Amira.
