I am under the impression that Verisign/Network Solutions has not met
the agreements they have made with people registering domain names. The contract
NSI has people agree to allows domain name transfering to other services within a
reasonable period of time. Many, Many people have been frustrated with NSI
because they can not have this basic service done. How hard can it be to allow
a person to transfer a domain name to another company? It apparently has been
so hard that NSI charges a fee of $200 to bump people to the top of the list to have
a transfer made. But yet, this transfer is something NSI offers to people when
they register a name with NSI. Why should people have to pay money to acutally
have it done? My G*d, this is a computer company! Is it really
so hard to allow a person to change where they have their domain name held?
Instead it seems like intransigent behavior designed to milk the customer for more
money for doing something the customer was already promised. How right is this?
Is this behavior ICANN wants to encourage?
I want to encourage ICANN to take a
second look at what Verisign/NSI have obligated themselves to do and whether they
are acutally doing it. I don't think they are. If that is the case, Option
B and Option A should not be looked at, but instead consequences for not meeting
previous contractual agreements need to be examined. Consumers do not deserve
either option A or option B and I don't think either should be automatically adopted
or adopted by default. Verisign may have made a lot of progress in some areas
but certain other standards must be met if they are going to keep this monopoly on
the .com domain names.
Sincerely,
