Wow this is the second message I've entirely read about ICANN being all a X-Files conspiracy but yet all I hear is mindless banter. Really to use examples like Communist governments to put people into believing stereotypes makes me realize our "government conspiracy" has been uneducated adults. My AP English teacher would probably give you a D-.

As for judging a non-profit, there are of course set guidelines already on how organizations qualify for non-profit status. I like to believe most of them aren't breaking the law and are sincerely non-profit. But then again why would a teen homeless shelter or youth center be breaking the law? If ICANN made this they would probably need assistance from whatever government agency regulates non-profits to ensure whoever applied for a .org would certainly be a non-profit. I would hope ICANN then dictate (yes they can dictate why the heck not?) that the organization implement their website within a matter of a month or few weeks to ensure its not a squatter or false organization. Why would you register a domain name without using it to promote your organization? If someone didn't then of course they could revoke and reimburse the organization. That should make sense but I doubt its feasible to reimburse domain purchases.

I agree with one point that ICANN must live up to always monitoring these sites if they mandate .org nonprofits. Maybe one a month or every other week (haha yeah right). I'm sure people would argue how you look at content but maybe the nonprofit should have to submit reports to ICANN on their website. Many nonprofits already have to send out reports to grantees and it would be no different.

I think the free speech right is ludicrous with this topic because McDonalds can always kick you out of the store and not allow video cameras (as many a friends have attempted hehe).

I disagree that ICANN is being a ruthless double-edged sword by putting the squeeze on .orgs who are inherently not non-profit. The best way to seed out the .orgs is to put a stop to all .org renewals and let the non .orgs just expire--not simply shut them down immediately. So let those guys live out their .org mockery and their money's worth and just say they can't register again until they apply.

Why would you be a cheater?

But ICANN, u gotta get on the ball. :)
