It has now been almost 4 full days since domain registrar
Stargate Communications' forwarding services went down.
During
this period they have been utterly unresponsive to emails
or telephone calls
- no human can be reached; and the only
explanation on their web site is that
there are "intermittant"
problems that they expect to have fixed "quickly."
Meanwhile, of course, your site is unavailable, and you cannot
get your domain
released in good time - nor at all if it is within
two months of registration,
something which has happened to
me with two different registrars now. This
policy, apparently
supported by ICANN, would surely be found illegal if challenged
at law, not to mention the manipulative mandatory remaining-
time transfer
policy.
My recommendation, which I will copy to every appropriate
government agency and consumer protection organization I can
find, is simply
this:
IF A REGISTRAR FAILS TO DELIVER SERVICES AS
ADVERTISED FOR
MORE THAN 24 HOURS, IT MUST, AT THE
REQUEST OF THE REGISTRANT, IMMEDIATELY RELEASE
HIS
DOMAIN, AND REFUND HIS FEES ON A PRO RATA BASIS.
I would like to hear from
ICANN on this issue, as well as anyone
else, possibly in the interest of a class-action
law suit.
