It's not like we don't have precident that addl. tld's don't create more space.  the only ones that actually create more space (in theory) are .org (largely because nonprofits are thrifty enough to only buy .org) and in theory at least .name (but that rollout has been botched to the point that it may never work). It is clearly just a way for the few to make more $$$ at this point.
