Re: TLDs .svc, .firm, etc.

I read the IANA Statement on New Generic TLDs, and want to verify the
current status of this effort.  I understand from the Statement that no
new TLDs will be issued now.  Has this effectively killed this endeavor,
or will there be an effort to bring these TLDs before the "new
organization"?  Has anything new occurred since this statement was
issued 24 September 1998?
