ETSI statement on the incorporation of the new IANA

The ETSI Board, in its 31 August to 2 September session in Lisbon
(Portugal), issued the following statement in support of the IANA proposal
for incorporation.

The European Telecommunications Standards Institute,

considering the importance of the Telecommunications Industry for the
development of Internet and confirming the need to ensure an international
approach with regard to Internet governance,

- acknowledges the determinant role of IANA in the oversight of the Internet
operations;
- recognizes the need for continuity in the evolution of the Internet;
- endorses the plan presented by IANA as "New Proposed Bylaws - Third
Iteration" at: http://www.iana.org/bylaws3.html;
- encourages IANA to rapidely proceed to the incorporation of the new entity
meeting the deadline of 30th September 1998.
