NSI Puppets for Hire
Dear Harold,
Thanks for putting this out on the list. For your amusement, here's
some domain name related info I pulled from AIM's web site today under
their "The Real Domain Name Story" section:
http://www.interactivehq.org/html/the_real_domain_name_story.htm
"7) January 30, 1998. Magaziner issues the Green Paper outlining the
draft position of the U.S. government. The paper supports all of
AIM’s principals and clearly rejects the leadership of the IAHC. AIM
supports the Green Paper as a victory for the Internet industry and
AIM. AIM works to build support for the paper."
Now the above is true since the Green Paper was basically NSI's
proposal to the DOC (as NSI announced at the LA Spring InternetWorld).
AIM's sugar daddy NSI had definitely won that round. But reading a
little further we have #8....
"8) June 5, 1998. The White House issues the final policy on
“Management of Internet Names and Addresses.” The policy supports
100% of AIM’s positions. The crisis is over, AIM wins another battle!"
Now since the White Paper took a 180 degree turn from the Green Paper
how is it that AIM's positions were yet again supported? Either I'm
missing something or AIM is spreading disinformation at every turn,
likely at the behest of their "Governing Member" NSI
http://www.interactivehq.org/html/governing_members.htm
How is it that AIM members don't see through Andy Sternowitz's
deceptions and complain that he's representing NSI's interests at the
expense of their own? One could probably say the same about that
"Good Ole Gal" Barb Dooley at CIX. Both of them should take some
training on how to conduct a subliminal campaign as it's just too easy
to see their real motivations (seats on the Board next to their Sugar
Daddy NSI).
Prove to to the public that I'm off target Andy and Barb.. I dare ya;)
Watching from afar,
Rob

-->1. Internet Governance issues
resolved in formation
of new non profit corporation
In a follow-up to the white paper
created under the
Clinton administration, the
Internet Assigned Numbers
Authority and Network Solutions
have reached a compromise
on the development of a new non
profit corporation to
administer the governance structure
of the Internet. The
Internet Corporation for Assigned
Names and Numbers will
take on many of the functions of
the Internet Assigned
Numbers Authority while alleviating
Network Solutions of
many of the additional
administrative functions having
been carried out since their
initial government contract
in 1995. A notable addition is the
establishment of a
representative Board of Directors
for the ICANN that will
be comprised of international
stakeholders including
representatives for consumer and
business interests.
While the administrative functions
have been established,
the intellectual property issues
are yet to be resolved.
WIPO, the International Trademark
Association, the
American Intellectual Property Law
Association, and
numerous lawyers representing
corporate interests are yet
to decide on a single policy to
resolve any trademark
disputes related to domain names.
The current speculation
is that the trademark stakeholders
will create a similar
representative Board of Directors
to resolve highly
disputed claims while a rotated
committee will resolve
lesser disputes.
Editorial note: The Association for
Interactive Media is
pleased to support the formation of
ICANN. As a steering
committee member for the
International Forum for the
White Paper, AIM is one of the
organizations that helped
broker this agreement.
