Thank you for this opportunity to post comment on the new gTLD Application
Guidebook:
New TLDs will provide needed namespace for the growing and record numbers of
people and websites joining the Internet. There are new TLD initiatives
specifically designed to better serve people and communities who are not
effectively being served now. The promise of choice and competition in the
domain name space providing increased opportunity for businesses, Internet
users and Non-profits is extremely beneficial and progressive!
There are even new TLD initiatives whose business plans are designed not
only to serve specific communities, but which will also benefit the greater
and global public good – which may be referred to as Cause Based TLDs
(cbTLD). While all new TLDs will clearly benefit Internet users, and the
specific online communities they are designed for, *I would like to draw
attention to the concept that Cause Based TLDs and their benefits can be
very important to people around the world in ways beyond the Internet.* And
because of this, I want to urge the ICANN Board and members of The GAC to
avoid further delays, allow the innovation for the people to begin by acting
on moving the new TLD process forward as soon as possible! Cause Based TLDs
and the world are depending on your timely approval of the application
process!
I am grateful and thankful for the many industry experts including those in
the ICANN community and members of the ICANN Board of Directors who now
recognize the need as well as the multitude of benefits for the introduction
of new TLDs. I would like to urge Chairman Peter Dengate Thrush, ICANN’s
President/CEO Mr. Rod Beckstrom and the honorable ICANN Board to please
recognize that cause based TLD initiatives and others are extremely time
relevant to *all* people regardless of whether or not they are a member of
the designated TLD community. Delaying the TLD process deprives and even
harms people and economies.
These are DotGreen’s requests to the Board:
· Please do not allow any further delays to the processing of new
TLDs which promise so many benefits to so many people.
· Please approve the May 30, 2011 application window for new TLDs.
· Please consider shortening the application window to 30 days –
avoiding addition delay in delegations.
· Please allow TLD applicants to include a contract with a registry
services operator as a qualification/substitute for the current Instrument
or Letter of Credit for continued registry operations of the TLD.
· Please allow us to participate as soon as possible in this
exciting historical event, ICANN’s new TLD application process leading to an
introduction of innovative new TLDs for all people and the World Wide Web.
Sincerely yours,
Annalisa Roger
