[alac] Requesting your support for Board Liaison
As Roberto has demonstrated, the ALAC Liaison has an important role on the Board. I see that role as having three chief components: Facilitating communication between our Committee and the Board; following and participating in the voluminous discussions of the ICANN Board; and ensuring that the range of viewpoints of individual Internet users is heard in these Board discussion. Communications Transparency: While I recognize that the Board has confidentiality requirements and imposes some of those on its liaisons, I would commit to regular reporting of issues in both directions between Committee and Board, and follow up so the Committee knows when and whether its members' recommendations have effect, as well as how we can be more effective. Participation: We do not all agree on many issues, but I believe we all agree that the voices of individual Internet users and their representatives should be heard and reflected in ICANN policy. I want to ensure that our new Latin American RALO has meaningful channels for its members' input, and that ALSs and individuals in other regions can see value to forming similar organizations. Advocacy: As a lawyer, I am used to being a zealous advocate for my clients' interests. Taking the At-Large users, in all their diversity, as my client, I believe I could work to form alliances on the Board to advance those interests even if some differ from my personal views. I hope you will feel free to ask me questions in person or by email if I can give you further assurances. I look forward to continuing to serve the ALAC, ICANN, and the interests of individual Internet users.
