[bc-gnso] FILED: BC comment on Policy Advisory Boards
Finding no objections from members by today's designated deadline, we deem the attached draft as approved. Thanks to Ron Andruff for moving quickly to draft these comments. -Steve From: Steve DelBianco <sdelbianco@xxxxxxxxxxxxx<mailto:sdelbianco@xxxxxxxxxxxxx>> Date: Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at 7:26 PM To: BC Private <bc-private@xxxxxxxxx<mailto:bc-private@xxxxxxxxx>> Cc: Ron Andruff <ra@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx<mailto:ra@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>> Subject: FOR REVIEW BY 16-MAY: BC comment on Policy Advisory Boards ICANN has a public comment period on a Proposal for the Use of Mandatory Policy Advisory Boards for Regulated Industry Sector and Consumer-Trust-Sensitive New gTLD Strings. (link<http://www.icann.org/en/news/public-comment/pab-new-gtld-strings-21mar14-en.htm>) At last week's BC call, Ron Andruff volunteered to draft a brief BC comment. Ron's natural for this one, since he was among the originators of this idea (link<http://www.icann.org/en/news/public-comment/pab-new-gtld-strings-21mar14-en.htm>). Ron's draft comment is attached. Please review and comment by 16-May. (I informed ICANN staff that we would file on 17-May, even though the comment period closes today). As for prior BC positions: See Feb-2012 BC letter to ICANN Board, where we originated the idea of having ICANN enface commitments made by new gTLD applicants. (link<http://www.bizconst.org/Positions-Statements/BC%20request%20for%20implementation%20improvements.pdf>) In our Jun-2013 comment on GAC Safeguards (link), we said this about industry self-regulation regarding TLDs for regulated markets: With respect to Safeguard (4) above, the BC believes that working consultation with relevant regulatory and industry bodies, especially for the purpose of jointly developing harm mitigation strategies, will promote self- regulatory best practices that will improve consumer disclosure and protection.
