To the ICANN Board of Directors, I own a number of domains in the .BIZ, .INFO
and .ORG tld's that I want to develop. However, if I see my hard work will only
lead to my profits being taxed by exorbitant registration renewal fees I will
be forced to reconsider my plans. If the proposed new registry agreements are
approved I will have to consider letting my already undeveloped .BIZ, .INFO and
.ORG tld names expire rather than renew them because of this new agreement. We
have seen the .COM crash of 2000 and I fear that with this new agreement and
the 2 tier pricing for bandwidth being proposed by the Telco's and Cable
companies a second crash is taking shape. Just when the internet had recovered
from the 2000 crash because of the hard work of website owners creating great
content to draw people to the internet this agreement and 2 tiered bandwidth
pricing threaten to create the crash of 2006,2007,200?. As website owners are
forced to close their sites due to exorbitant registration renewal fees the
content that attracted people to the internet will disappear, as it disappears
so will the consumers of that content. ICANN and the operators of the .BIZ,
.INFO and .ORG tld's will see their fee's fall to zero since without website
owners they have no business. I implore the ICANN Board of Directors, please
give domain owners an agreement that will let them only be subject to
reasonable and fair registration increases based on the registries cost of
doing business and/or the rate of inflation.
Sincerely,
Dennis Hennessey
