The biz/info/org contract discussions of the past 3 months have generated a
unanimous community position ... which is price protection and price caps for
the customers of biz/info/org domain names. ICANN have a clear responsibility
to provide domain registrants long-term safeguards from registry price gouging.
There should be no "loophole" in the revised contract language, in any form or
fashion, THAT EVER allows registries or registrars to implement tiered pricing.
ICANN must be extremely deliberate and clear in ramming this point home to the
biz/info/org registries. No tiered pricing ... ever! No contingency permitted,
ever, in which a registry can jack up prices in a discriminatory fashion. These
tld's are not new launches. Large customer investments in these tld's were made
years ago and must be honored/protected - not exploited.
Hiring economic consultants to study competition issues may offer helpful
guidance of more minute issues. Each member of ICANN, however, are responsible
for ICANN's collective decisions and the impact these decisions will have on
individual investors and the internet community. ICANN must succeed in making
just, appropriate policies that reflect objectivity and fairness.
ICANN must not allow itself to be compromised by big corporations who are
content to exploit small business and individual registrants.
