I think everybody should take two minutes and read the
following article:
http://news.cnet.com/ICANN-board-approves-settlement,-price-hikes/2100-1030_3-6044587.html
We are in this situation today because the VeriSign
corporation filed a lawsuit against ICANN and as part of the settlement, ICANN
granted VeriSign the right to raise fees on .com domains by 7 percent
annually. ICANN claimed they had no other option but to settle.
In addition, VeriSign agreed to pay ICANN $6 million - $12
million per year as part of this settlement. Doesn’t this sound a bit strange
money is flowing from the company who originally
filed this lawsuit? So as part of this
settlement, VeriSign is required to pay $6 million - $12 million per year to
ICANN.
VeriSign filed this lawsuit, but as part of the agreement, VeriSign
is paying ICANN a fee ranging from $6 million - $12 million per year. Is this
not a conflict of interest for the
ICANN organization?
The ICANN board should have NEVER approved this settlement!
Absolutely disgusting….and the real losers are the consumers.
