Dear ICANN –
Regarding the proposed rules governing companies that provide WHOIS
privacy services (as set forth in the Privacy and Policy Services
Accreditation Issues Policy document):
I urge you to respect internet users' rights to privacy and due process.
- Everyone deserves the right to privacy.
- No one’s personal information should be revealed without a court
order, regardless of whether the request comes from a private
individual or law enforcement agency.
- Advertising everyone's physical address and phone number is very
dangerous, as showed by many cases of "doxxing" in the past year, in
which dangerous and murderous individuals used WHOIS data to track
down women online and threat their lives and safety at their place of
residence - see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PuNIwYsz7PI (John
Oliver: Online Harassment) for few of these examples. ICANN should
work to make domain privacy free for everyone, not to abolish it!
Private information should be kept private. Thank you.
