It is absolutely unacceptable to allow the personal, private, home contact
information of anyone who registers a website to be publicly available to
anyone who wants it. Spammers, stalkers, identity thieves, potential
employers -- these people don't have the right to my home phone number, my
house address, my personal email.
If someone is accused of a crime like copyright infringement, then the
copyright holder can go to court and get a subpoena. This is basic due
process.
I support:
- The legitimate use of privacy or proxy services* to keep personal
information private, protect physical safety, and prevent identity theft*
- *The use of privacy services by all*, for all legal purposes,
regardless of whether the website is “commercial”
- That privacy providers should not be forced to reveal my private
information *without* *verifiable evidence* of wrongdoing
Please reconsider this short-sighted proposal to gut the WHOIS privacy
system and once again attempt to shortchange the public to serve commercial
interests.
