Dear ICANN –
Regarding the proposed rules governing companies that provide WHOIS privacy
services (as set forth in the Privacy and Policy Services Accreditation
Issues Policy document):
I urge you to respect Internet users' rights to privacy and due process.
- Everyone deserves the right to privacy.
- No one’s personal information should be revealed without a court order,
regardless of whether the request comes from a private individual or law
enforcement agency.
- Determining WHOIS information should be made public based upon the top
level domain such as .com does not necessarily identify a business site,
the site may just as well be private
- Registering a domain should not open my personal email up to spam or mean
I must personally identify myself just as owning a phone does not mean I
have to publish my name and telephone number
- Methods already existing with private WHOIS registration for the owner of
a site to be contacted through their proxy service, that is sufficient
- Perhaps you would like to publish your home address and contact
information world wide. No? Why should I?
Private information should be kept private. Thank you.
