Dear ICANN –
Regarding the proposed rules governing companies that provide WHOIS privacy
services (as set forth in the Privacy and Policy Services Accreditation Issues
Policy document):
I urge you to respect internet users' rights to privacy and due process.
- I believe this proposal could lead to physical attacks on people. For
example, my brother is a psychiatrist and has received a death threat from a
patient. He also owns the domain paulolearymd.com <http://paulolearymd.com/>
which he hopes to use for advertising his forensic psychiatric services. I
think it is very understandable that he does not wish to have his family’s
address accessible without court review.
- I do not believe this proposal will prevent wealthy businesses from hiding
their domain using shell companies.
- The vast majority people deserve the right to privacy, people dealing in
child porn would be one exception.
- No one’s personal information should be revealed without a court order,
regardless of whether the request comes from a private individual or law
enforcement agency.
Sincerely,
Allen Jørgen Tobias O'Leary
