Having read overviews of the recent Privacy/Proxy Working Group Preliminary
Report, I just wanted to write a brief note encouraging you to reconsider some
of the recommended policies.

While I don't use privacy providers for domain registration, I understand the
value of such services, especially given recent instances of "doxxing" and
similar harassment of individuals who acquire infamy online.

Please do not require registrars or privacy providers to give away the personal
information of their clients in any situation where such disclosure is not
already required by law (e.g. subpoena or court order). Furthermore, permit
registrars and privacy providers to notify their clients of any such
disclosures except as required by law.

To do otherwise will detract from the ability of individuals to communicate
freely online, especially on important topics such as civil rights and social
justice that tend to arouse strong opinions. It would detract from our ability
- as a nation, as a world - to discuss important issues.

Thank you,

Darin Wick
