Dear ICANN –
Regarding the proposed rules governing companies that provide WHOIS
privacy services (as set forth in the Privacy and Policy Services
Accreditation Issues Policy document):
At a time when bad actors, AKA "trolls", are using on-line information
to harass, bully and intimidate individual website owners, including
people who create non-commercial sites to express their personal joys
and creativity, not to mention many young people learning to use the
internet as a tool, eliminating the simple protection offered by proxies
creates a clear and present danger to many domain name owners, and it
puts ICANN in the position of supporting trolls over innocent domain owners.
I urge you to respect internet users' rights to privacy and due process.
- Everyone deserves the right to privacy.
- No one’s personal information should be revealed without a court
order, regardless of whether the request comes from a private individual
or law enforcement agency.
Private information should be kept private. Thank you.
