The wise people of ICANN,
Please protect domain name privacy. It's what allows companies to
launch new sub-businesses in "Stealth-mode" and is effectively no different
than the use of a Registered Agents for corporations and provides similar
privacy protections for domain owners. I say this as a person working in the
vendor surveillance industry and also as a professional penetration tester.
This type of privacy is important for businesses, their owners, and
individuals, so they can have the freedom to launch multiple projects without
their competition being publicly notified of every single domain they register
the moment it has been registered. The system we have works well and has
benefits you may not be considering when reviewing this policy change. This
change you are considering although beneficial for one industry may cause much
larger amounts of intellectual property damage and intellectual property risk
to all other people and industries. As with many other aspects of the Internet
what we have works, it is not perfect but does work well and has lots of
indirect value that many companies are benefitting greatly from. I do not think
our current domain name registration process is particularly broken and it
appears that this proposed change is strictly a push from one or two large
industries which have not dealt well with the rise of the Internet. For the
sake of all other entities involved please protect the domain name privacy
option.
Thank you for your consideration. -Trey
