Dear ICANN –
Regarding the proposed rules governing companies that provide WHOIS privacy
services (as set forth in the Privacy and Policy Services Accreditation Issues
Policy document):
I urge you to respect internet users' rights to privacy and due process.
- Everyone deserves the right to privacy.
- No one’s personal information should be revealed without a court order,
regardless of whether the request comes from a private individual or law
enforcement agency.
As a woman working in tech who's visible in the community, having my private
information readily available gives people the tools to harass me (or worse) at
my home. In an ideal world, having my information public would be safe. But
this is not that world, and I'd encourage you to think of the potential
consequences and thus allow private information to remain private.
Thank you,
WeiChun (Elea) Chang
