Dear ICANN –
Regarding the proposed rules governing companies that provide WHOIS privacy
services (as set forth in the Privacy and Policy Services Accreditation
Issues Policy document):
I urge you to respect internet users' rights to privacy and due process.
- Everyone deserves the right to privacy.
- No one’s personal information should be revealed without a court order,
regardless of whether the request comes from a private individual or law
enforcement agency.
As a domain name holder and web space consumer - forcing me to unmask my
personal and corporate information beyond what is publicly posted on my
website would lead to me having to close my account due to the huge amount
of email spam such an unmasking would allow. My subscription allows for
immediate and legitimate contact via my service provider while eliminating
email spam and attacks on my personal accounts. As the operator of a small
business I can tell you that elimination of the privacy services would
result in an instant, debilitating amount of spam to both my corporate and
personal email accounts. It would also expose my personal information and
phone number to those who have no legitimate business contacting or visiting
me at home.
Private information should be kept private. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Peter M. Haduch Jr.
