ICANN - Pavel Kirkovsky Says Respect Our Privacy
Dear ICANN, Regarding the proposed rules governing companies that provide WHOIS privacy services (as set forth in the Privacy and Policy Services Accreditation Issues Policy document): I urge you to respect internet users' rights to privacy and due process. - Everyone deserves the right to privacy. - No one’s personal information should be revealed without a court order, regardless of whether the request comes from a private individual or law enforcement agency. This proposal harms vulnerable people in our society. What if a pseudonymous activist publishes blog posts on her website, and also sells a book or some other item? That would fall under “commercial activity” and would put the activist at risk. It doesn’t make sense to protect that person’s privacy in the former case but violate it in the latter. Many people, especially women, are routinely targeted online for their social & political views, their gender, their sexual orientation, etc. This policy change would make them more vulnerable to harassment and attacks. There is no need for arbitrary third parties to know a domain registrant’s name or address. Private information should be kept private. Thank you. -Pavel Kirkovsky ---------------- pavel@xxxxxxxxxxxxx (Email/XMPP) OTR Fingerprint: 0DC94FB7 CF0F6989 E2746A37 0EADCF54 00145E35 Key fingerprint: 4328CFD67B46A8FB32270F4F0CE4A0B83F3FC81F Public Key: https://kirkovsky.com/pubkey Public Key (PKA): `gpg --auto-key-locate pka -ea -r pavel@xxxxxxxxxxxxx` Attachment:
