Dear ICANN
It has been brought to my attention that the proposed rules governing
companies that provide WHOIS privacy services, as set forth in the
Privacy and Policy Services Accreditation Issues Policy document, will
limit everyday users' rights to privacy on the Internet.
Whether I register a domain name for personal or commercial reasons, I
believe it is my right to keep my personal information private. There is
no good reason why my family's home address should be published on the
Internet, as it could be under these proposed new rules. And there are
many good reasons to give internet users a choice in what information
they publicly divulge about themselves, as registrants of a domain name.
I urge you to respect internet users' rights to privacy and due process.
- Everyone deserves the right to privacy.
- No one’s personal information should be revealed without a court
order, regardless of whether the request comes from a private individual
or law enforcement agency.
Private information should be kept private. Thank you.
Stuart
