I'm a Domain Name owner, and I oppose the COA plan to streamline the
process for determining whois the owner of any particular domain.
Proxy registration is a good balance between the need for public
accountability and the fundamental human right of privacy. There are
already sufficient provisions for legal accountability, and national
legislatures can add strengthen them if necessary. But if proxying
DNS ownership information is made more difficult for ordinary internet
users, then the net takes yet another step away from being the
democratic medium for change and innovation that we have all fallen in
love with.
