Dear ICANN –
Regarding the proposed rules governing companies that provide WHOIS privacy
services (as set forth in the Privacy and Policy Services Accreditation
Issues Policy document):
I urge you to respect internet users' rights to privacy and due process.
- Everyone deserves the right to privacy whether they make an income from
running a website or not.
- No one’s personal information should be revealed without a court order,
regardless of whether the request comes from a private individual or law
enforcement agency.
Private information should remain as that and everyone's privacy should be
respected.
The internet is a fact of life, and the right to be anonymous should also
be a fact of life whether you earn an income from the internet or not.
I urge you to reconsider this proposal and maintain the current arrangement
of allowing WHOIS contact details for domain registration.
Regards,
Andrew Barnett
