Registration of WHOIS information by proxy is imperative for security of
certain business sites. Consider the local coin dealer using a home based
business and operating a web site to sell rare currency suddenly being
faced with the world knowing his personal identity and home address. He is
suddenly faced with the real danger of crime and home invasion by strangers
because he is unable to protect his identity by use of a proxy. It's okay
for him to protect this information in the US phone system by use of
unlisted numbers, why should this right to privacy be denied by ICANN. The
forced revelation of WHOIS information will only drive a new industry of
ownership of web sites by proxies rather then the existing situation of
registration of WHOIS by proxy. Changing the existing climate is a
lose-lose situation and poorly considered.
