Dear ICANN,
Regarding the proposed rules governing companies that provide WHOIS privacy
services (as set forth in the Privacy and Policy Services Accreditation
Issues Policy document):
Please stop this proposal so as to not jeopardize free speech on the
internet. Technically, with the words currently in the proposal, anyone
with an advertisement on their site is no longer able to keep their
identity a secret. It goes even further than that though. Anyone with a
link to a commercial product could be at risk. With such a broad and
ill-defined law, everyone on the internet is at risk.
People need some sense of privacy to share ideas and information that might
break the mold of today's norms. That's what makes the internet so
beautiful. If Galileo had the internet, he could have been able to continue
his studies while sharing his research with the wold; all while keeping his
identity anonymous. So please, stop this proposal.
Sincerely,
Gabe
