Dear ICANN –
Regarding the proposed rules governing companies that provide WHOIS privacy
services (as set forth in the Privacy and Policy Services Accreditation Issues
Policy document):
I urge you to respect internet users' rights to privacy and due process.
- Everyone deserves the right to privacy.
- No one’s personal information should be revealed without a court order,
regardless of whether the request comes from a private individual or law
enforcement agency.
Private information should be kept private. Thank you.
Further, it doesn't make sense that my individual address, therefore phone
number, can suddenly be available to link my humble site with data that can be
exploited. If I want this information known I can always post it on my site.
But I don't. I've learned I need to protect myself on the internet, from both
spammers and hackers. Making me "go public" is also making me more vulnerable.
I'm not sure what the motive behind this is, but the cost can be high to many
individuals, far outweighing any gain. And seems to me, the gain would serve
only a few, not the majority.
Please re-consider. Thank you.
