I am writing to OPPOSE the proposal to end the use of privacy services
for domain registration.

My wife, for whom I am webmaster, is a well-known writer on politics and
feminism. She has frequently received threats for her expressed views.
We use a domain privacy service to prevent those who would harm her from
learning her home address. Prohibiting the use of domain privacy
services would place her at risk.

Like many working writers, she has in the past (and may again in the
future) sold advertising space on her web page, as a way to defray
expenses. This should not be a factor in granting privacy.

I am also concerned about the potential for identity theft. We have
already faced this once, with the theft of credit card information
despite our precautions. Publishing our address and telephone number
would make it even easier for identity thieves.

Owning a domain name and a web site is not a crime, and should not be
punished with public exposure and a presumption of guilt. Please act to
preserve our privacy, and to protect the ability of "little people" such
as ourselves to have a presence on the web.
