Regarding the proposed rules governing companies that provide WHOIS privacy
services (as set forth in the Privacy and Policy Services Accreditation
Issues Policy document):
This is a largely damaging policy and the rights of individuals need to be
respected. There is a significant danger in providing these details without
a court order. This can potentially put individuals at risk or those who
wish to do harm to them. Contact information should be kept private through
services such as WHOIS. Don't change the internet, it works today as it has
for the last few decades.
I urge you to respect internet users' rights to privacy and due process.
- Everyone deserves the right to privacy.
- No one's personal information should be revealed without a court order,
regardless of whether the request comes from a private individual or law
enforcement agency.
Private information should be kept private. Thank you.
