Hello ICANN,
This email is about the rules that govern companies who provide WHOIS
services (specifically, privacy) as is found in the Privacy and Policy
Servcies
Accreditation Issues Policy document.
My request is to simply ask you to re-think on this issue. The internet was
founded on freedom, and furthermore, I strongly believe users of the
internet have the right to both privacy and due process.
I urge you to respect internet users' rights to privacy and due process.
It should be a basic right, that no personal information should be disclosed
to anybody (except the rightful owner) without permission from a court in
terms of a court order. I make no distinction between private and public
agencies, both should be subject to attaining a court order before being
given access to any data not created by themselves.
I am a small business owner, and this is the first letter I have ever sent
in regards to new legislation. For me, WHOIS data being anonymous stops any
Tom, Dick or Harry from finding out where I live. The advent of trolls and
other malicious parties mean this anonymity is a must, the reasons, I hope,
are both self-evident and self-explanatory.
You may contact me at kaahlstedt@xxxxxxxxx if you would like to further
discuss the issues I have raised.
Please keep my home address private.
Thank you.
Regards,
Mr K A Ahlstedt
