Dear ICANN –
Regarding the proposed rules governing companies that provide WHOIS privacy
services (as set forth in the Privacy and Policy Services Accreditation Issues
Policy document):
This proposal is particularly harmful to those of us with domains for small
home-based businesses. We do not have a separate business address, so we
depend on whois protection in order to keep our home address private. Without
this protection, we will be particularly vulnerable to harassment and this
should not be something that ICANN facilitates. A high bar (court order)
should be the required standard for the release of such information.
I urge you to respect internet users' rights to privacy and due process.
- Everyone deserves the right to privacy.
- No one’s personal information should be revealed without a court order,
regardless of whether the request comes from a private individual or law
enforcement agency.
Private information should be kept private. Thank you.
