<html><body><div><p style="margin: 0px; font-size: 16px; line-height: normal;
font-family: Helvetica;">My comments are related specifically to Universal
Acceptance of IDN TLDs. The prevalent lack of support for IDN TLDs is a symptom
of a much deeper problem which is the lack of IT Internationalisation (i18n)
education in Schools and Universities. The current situation is that we lack a
critical mass of IT people with i18n skills/awareness. Instead we have a
relatively small number of i18n specialists. If though we had such a critical
mass then implementation of i18n features such as IDNs would occur as a core
part of the process rather than being treated as an exception.</p>
<p style="margin: 0px; font-size: 16px; line-height: normal; font-family:
Helvetica; min-height: 19px;"><br></p>
<p style="margin: 0px; font-size: 16px; line-height: normal; font-family:
Helvetica;">Let me take a simple example of how educators could change their
teaching to raise awareness of IT i18n. The Regular Expression "[A-Z]+" will
match with one or more occurrences of any ASCII character in the range A thru
Z. This illustrates how Regular Expressions are currently taught. With a very
simple change one can i18n Regular Expression teaching. The Regular Expression
"[<span style="font-family: AppleGothic;">가</span>-<span style="font-family:
AppleGothic;">힣</span>]+" will match with one of more occurrences of any Korean
Hangul syllable in the range <span style="font-family: AppleGothic;">가</span>
thru <span style="font-family: AppleGothic;">힣</span>.</p>
<p style="margin: 0px; font-size: 16px; line-height: normal; font-family:
Helvetica; min-height: 19px;"><br></p>
<p style="margin: 0px; font-size: 16px; line-height: normal; font-family:
Helvetica;">So, there needs to be promotion of IT i18n in Schools and
Universities leading to incorporation of IT i18n into the curriculum. IT i18n
needs to be core and not peripheral.</p>
<p style="margin: 0px; font-size: 16px; line-height: normal; font-family:
Helvetica; min-height: 19px;"><br></p>
<p style="margin: 0px; font-size: 16px; line-height: normal; font-family:
Helvetica;">I am happy to discuss this in more detail as the above is just a
brief summary of my thoughts.</p>
