Under the guise of attempting to protect one particular group,
censorship will be imposed whether people want it or not. Clearly the
many things already on the web to keep inappropriate images away from
(in this case) children are not enough - opt-in links that specify the
age of the participant, credit card numbers, software installed on the
child's machine to keep them from going to certain sites, and finally,
the responsibility of the parents to know what their children are
doing.
Parents have a responsibility to raise their children, but they do not
have an inherent priviledge to infringe on other's unfettered access
to something they in particular find wrong. That way lies censorship,
pure and simple.
I am opposed to this measure.
