This snippet leaves out several salient points. A) that this information
was requested not as part of an investigation, but as part of an
existing case in which the USG wishes to demonstrate the level of
pornography available through search engines, b) that Yahoo! and
Microsoft have already conceded to the request, and c) that no request
for personally identifiable information was made, nor can any be
extrapolated from the data requested.
Still, very interesting and a reminder how the ever-present
local-political condition will create massive social pressures on
centralized systems.

Hi all
I thought this might be of interest, and sending it
through early in case it becomes a pay to view article
before I send out the next news.
Cheers

us: Google resists pressure on website searches
Google has refused to comply with a US government
subpoena for information about how people use its
search engine, opening one of the first legal battles
over whether law enforcement agencies should have
access to the increasingly far-reaching data held by
search engine companies.
