Thanks Olof and Patrick for this statistical information about the
exponential growth of gross deletes in .com/net over the past 4 years,
and nearly a 6x increase in the past 2 years.

Hi again,

The attached graph version in PowerPoint looks better, with a proper
timeline...

Regards

Olof

Hi Mike,

Getting back to you on this, my colleague Patrick (cc:d) provided me
with the time series below of gross deletes in .com and .net, (quoting a
mail sent by Danny Younger to the GA list). I just put it in an Excel
sheet (in a rather simplistic fashion) and got the attached chart, for
your consideration. It does have an illustrative value.

Best regards

Olof

Hi Olof,

I think it may be useful to have a statistical presentation of the adds
and deletes over time, from registry data like this from Issues Report:

* The .ORG monthly report for January, 2007[1] shows that five
registrars deleted 1,773,910 (99.4%) of domain names within the AGP,
retaining only 10,862 domain names following the AGP.

* The combined .COM and .NET monthly report for January, 2007[2]
shows that the top ten registrars engaged in domain tasting accounted
for 95% of all deleted .COM and .NET domain names. These registrars
deleted 45,450,897 domain names out of 47,824,131 total deletes. The top
four registrars engaged in domain tasting deleted 35,357,564 domain
names, or 74% of all deletes.

If we could show that visually over time, it may spur further discussion
and input, and should not be too difficult to create, do you agree? Or
might this be something the economist would do?

Also I think it would be good to have a description of what factual info
the Staff already has put together, and to begin to share the info with
the group if appropriate. Do you have all the info that Staff compiled
in preparing the report?
