Dear All,
Thank you to those attending yesterday's Fast Flux Working Group meeting in
person or by telephone. For those of you that were not able to attend, please
find below a short summary of the main points of discussion.
With best regards,
Marika
Fast Flux Working Group meeting - 5 November 2008
* In order to take advantage of the face-to-face meeting, it was decided to
discuss the way forward for the group as well as the report.
* Most present supported the proposal to continue the review of the initial
report, which would then be followed by a public comment period and final
constituency statements input. Based on the feedback received, the group would
then decide whether it would be possible to produce a final report, including
recommendations, or whether a different form of the report would be
communicated to the GNSO Council.
* Most present agreed that the group should take a closer look at the
proposed recommendations / conclusions after the public comment period and the
final constituency statements. However, in order to inspire comments and input,
it was proposed to include a list of ideas, including those currently listed in
the report, which would be clearly marked as 'individual ideas' and not the
view of the Working Group.
* A number of ideas were raised during the meeting for incorporation in the
report. These include:
- Broaden the discussion on Fast Flux by including the ccNSO, possibly by
inviting a ccNSO liaison to participate in the Working Group and invite
comments from the ccNSO to the Initial Report. (N.B. it was mentioned that some
of the solutions mentioned in the report have been implemented by certain
ccTLDs so they could provide interesting input into the report)
- Highlight in the report which solutions / recommendations could be tackled
by policy development, best practices and/or industry solutions
- Consider whether registration abuse policy provisions could address fast
flux by empowering registries / registrars to take down a domain name involved
in fast flux
* Members of the Working Group are encouraged to provide other ideas for the
recommendation section they would like to see included in the report.
* Additional work will be undertaken by members of the Working Group to
provide additional data for inclusion in the report in the form of executive
summaries and links to the full data.
* It was requested that staff provide an update on for which sections
proposed text has been circulated (N.B. an overview will be posted separately).
* The next conference call will take place on Friday 14 November for 2
hours. An updated version of the report will be circulated prior to that.
