Re: GNSO Improvements

From: International Trademark Association, Internet Committee

Date: 24 March, 2008

The International Trademark Association (INTA) (www.inta.org) is a
129-year-old not-for-profit membership association of more than 5500
trademark owners, from more than 190 countries, dedicated to the support
and advancement of trademarks and related intellectual property as
elements of fair and effective national and international commerce.
INTA's Internet Committee is a group of over 100 trademark attorneys and
professionals charged with developing and advocating policies to advance
the balanced protection of trademarks on the Internet.

The Internet Committee of INTA is very concerned and distressed by the
diminished private sector role outlined in the BGC WG proposal. We
understand that the IPC, BC, and ISPC are working together to develop an
alternative proposal and on 19 March, 2008 sought a 30-day extension of
time within which to finalize and present that proposal, and on 21 March
the Board's Executive Committee extended the public comment period to 25
April, 2008. The Internet Committee is grateful for the extension and
respectfully defers further comment on the GNSO Improvements Report
until the joint constituency proposal has been finalized.
