Colleagues
Just following up on our weekend meeting in the context of the PRO-
WG. I have set out below a suggestion for a way forward after
consultation with Avri Doria, Kristina Rosette and Mike Rodenbaugh.
Background:
The PRO-WG recommendations suggested that the production of a
reference implementation document on a variety of rights protection
mechanisms may be useful for potential gTLD applicants.
Objective:
To produce a reference implementation document on a range of
possible rights protection mechanisms or circumstances that new
gTLD applicants may consider in the application process. The work
will not re-open the work of the PRO-WG but will provide some
practical and user friendly descriptions about RPMs. The work may
also describe conditions or circumstances that may make the use of
an RPM unnecessary.
Please respond to me directly if you would like to be included in
the work of this group. You may wish to invite other experts with
experience in implementing RPMs or experience in establishing
alternate models of TLDs that may not require an RPM, to
participate in the group.
The group will begin its work work on Tuesday 10 July (suggested
timing is 13h00 UTC 15h00 Brussels 17h00 11h00 Washington DC and
08h00 LA). The group's work will be completed by 15 October and
will use the existing PRO-WG mailing list and archive which will
be adjusted to include new members. The majority of the work will
take place via email with fortnightly one hour conference calls to
progress the work.
Baseline materials:
PRO WG Report -- http://gnso.icann.org/drafts/GNSO-PRO-WG-
final-01Jun07.pdf
Outputs:
Plain language descriptions of a variety of RPMs that may be
considered by applicants. This is a writing group concerned with
implementation materials not a policy discussion group in the
formal context of the policy development process for new TLDs.
[I'll prepare a template for the group and will assist with
development of the work.]
Kind regards.
Liz
