Dear All,
As a question was raised before about what activities ICANN is undertaking in
relation to the potential for increased criminal abuse and mitigation of risk
and the new gTLDs, I thought you might be interested to know that ICANN
discussed these concerns with the Anti-Phishing Working Group (APWG) and
understands they plan to produce a Whitepaper on the potential for increased
criminal abuse in the new gTLDs and potential measures for mitigation. In
addition, ICANN will solicit opinions and views of other organizations who are
not constituents of APWG on the issue. On the basis of this, ICANN staff will
issue a report on which public comments will be solicited, including a Wiki
page which will capture community discussion on malicious abuse and the three
other overarching issues. An announcement on 'Collaborative Communication: New
gTLD Overarching Issues'
(http://www.icann.org/en/announcements/announcement-02apr09-en.htm) was
released last Thursday, which includes the link to the wiki
(https://st.icann.org/new-gtld-overarching-issues/index.cgi?new_gtld_overarching_issues).
The public comment period and Wiki will allow for feedback and input from the
ICANN Community, including members of the RAP WG.
Please let me know if you have any further questions.
With best regards,
Marika
