[gnso-rn-wg] FW: Request to join the RN-WG

Note that Dr. Liu informed below that he is participating as an individual
rather than a liaison for the GAC. I believe we should still solicit his input
as we think appropriate but we won't be able to treat as GAC input.

Dear Mr. Gomes,
Your prompt reply was very much appreciated. I'd just like to clarify that
I've received four emails from you so far.
I'd like to clarify that I plan to participate in this WG only as an
individual. Suzanne has served actively and perfectly as the GAC liaison to
GNSO. I cc'd her because I received information about the WG from her. I
believe she's a better candidate for the liaison to the WG.
Regarding the next three meetings, as you've mentioned, it's rather early for
me to participate in the calls. The way you suggested works for me that is to
listen to the MP3 recordings of the calls; participate on the RN-WG list via
email; submit my concerns and questions via the list. I will soon be able to
catch up with the progress you've made. Once I collect the comments from the
relevant departments I'll let you know.
Regards,
K. C. Liu

Subject: RE: Request to join the RN-WG
Importance: High
Dr. Liu,
As chair of the RN-WG I sincerely welcome your willingness to be a part this
effort. At the start of our work in late January, I had requested that the GAC
provide a liaison to the WG. Are you planning to participate as the GAC
liaison or are you planning to participate as an individual? Because you cc'd
Suzanne Sene, I am assuming that you will serve as the GAC liaison.
Please note that I have copied the GNSO Secretariat and am hereby asking her to
add you to the RN-WG email list as well as to send you the necessary
information for the WG.
It is important for you to be aware that we are very near completion of our
work. Our final report is due 16 March and we have just three meetings
remaining:
Monday, 5 March, 17:00 UTC (01:00 Taiwan, next day)
Thursday, 8 March, 17:00 UTC (01:00 Taiwan, next day)
Thursday, 15 March, 16:00 UTC (00:00 Taiwan, next day)
Unfortunately, as you can see, the times for the meetings are very inconvenient
for you in Korea, and because we are coordinating schedules for as many as 27
people, it is very difficult to adjust meeting times at this late time. At the
same time, we would very much appreciate your contributions and in particular
your input as a GAC liaison, so let me make some suggestions to help facilitate
that.
To help you come up to speed quickly, I have attached a working version of a
document that will be used to prepare our final report. To make it more useful
I deleted a lot of the sections that were very incomplete and tried to leave
just those portions that I think would be helpful to you.
In our meeting this coming Monday (Tuesday for you), we will be reviewing each
of eight reports that are being prepared by subgroups assigned particular
reserved name categories. I will send you separately the most recent versions
of each of those reports for your review. Our goal is to finalize those
reports before 15 March. Some of them are much closer to being finished than
others so a lot of work needs to be done in the next 13 days. I especially
want to call your attention to two of the reports that I believe will be of
particular interest to the GAC: Geographical and Geopolitical Names and Single
& 2-Character Names, but please feel free to review all of them if you like.
We of course would appreciate your participation in our three remaining
teleconference calls but realize that the times are very inconvenient for you
so I suggest the following: listen to the MP3 recordings of the calls;
participate on the RN-WG list via email; submit any concerns and questions you
have via the list. I will notify members of the WG that you have joined the
group and will ask them to send you questions they have regarding their
reserved name topics.
Glen will send you the call information in case you are able to participate in
any of the calls.

Subject: Request to join the RN-WG
Dear Mr. Denton,
I hope this e-mail finds you well. I'm Kung-Chung Liu, representative
of Distinct Economy of Taiwan to the GAC.
I'm writing to show my interest in joining the RN-WG (Working Group on
Reserved Names), which is working actively to propose possible policy
recommendations to GNSO for consideration. To open the membership to the GAC is
a way forward to integrate different perspectives from different communities
and to promote transparency of the whole process.
I'll be grateful if you could kindly put me on the emailing list. Many
thanks for your help in advance and look forward to your reply.
With best regards,
K. C. Liu
