Hello All,
I have been rather busy and thus somewhat more quiet than normal, but I
promise to be my more vocal self in Brussels.
Just an interesting point that crossed my mind while reading posts from
individuals concerned about the incredible burden audits would be for those
entities that wanted to be an integrated registry/registrar. In the HSTLD
working group we have been evaluating much more complex audits that have
ranged in the 6 digit range. I do not see the propose VI audits being that
complex but let's assume the worst and say they represent an annual $100,000
burden.
I find it interesting that those people voicing concern over this financial
burden are also running around raising money, pumping stock etc on the
claiming of making millions off the new gTLD gold rush. I guess my
statement to those people are make up your mind. If there are millions to be
made off of vertically integrated gTLDs make a small investment to safeguard
consumer interests, or just be truthful that you really don't want to pay
for the audits because it is all about revenue maximization and consumer
safeguards are ancillary to profit maximization.
Just my two cents for what they are worth.
Best regards,
Michael
