1. Current occupation, employer and position
I am Deputy Director - Global Legal Policy for IFPI - the trade
association representing the recording industry worldwide based in
London.
2. Type of work performed in 1 above
In my role, I follow and contribute to national and international legal
and regulatory developments that are of interest to the recording
industry, liaise with international organisations, national governments,
the European Commission, and other industry representation.
3. Financial ownership or management leadership of registries,
registrars or other firms that are interested parties in Whois.
None
4. Nature of your interest in Whois
The success of the music industry online depends on consumer confidence
and the availability of effective steps against the violation of the law
online, including copyright and trademark infringement. IFPI engages in
the enforcement of record companies' rights, identifies problems that
distract from consumer confidence online, and cooperates with public
sector law enforcement agencies to address illegal acts. I have
followed the WHOIS debate over the past six years because I believe that
private sector law enforcement initiatives are vital for consumers and
businesses alike - and efficient access to meaningful WHOIS data is
essential for private sector law enforcement and public private sector
partnership.
I represent IFPI in the Intellectual Property Constituency and am a
member of the GNSO Council (again for the IPC).
Looking forward to working with you
Ute
