Ross,
Under the current scheme each registrar would become a
monopoly with respect to the REVEAL function.
Frankly, I'd rather have a single monopoly offering
one price than trying to deal with 895+ registrar
monopolies (all offering essentially the same service
at multiple price points).
Yes, I know that this would remove the profit-center
from the registrars and shift it to a centralized
WHOIS operator, but as you've reminded us previously,
the registrar interest is primarily focused on
respecting customer privacy concerns.
If this can be accomplished in a way that won't force
a very large number of entities to spend their cash
re-designing their systems to accomodate the manual
aspects of the REVEAL function, then so much the
better for all concerned.
